Another Criminal Enters Politics

This post was inspired by an observation a fellow blogger made about how people have not protested former cricketer Azharuddin's entry into politics...It is true...None of us have...As I see it, politics is the right profession for him...He has experience in fixing things for money without thinking of his fans or his country...He'll be a good politician by being a disgrace to our country...And guess which party he has joined - the Congress, a party of cheaters and manipulators...He's going to be projected as the party's new Muslim face, to take on the All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen...Okay, a lot of people may say his involvement in fixing matches has never been proven in court but obviously there was some evidence otherwise he wouldn't have been banned from cricket...I mean, Sanjay Dutt was declared a non terrorist by the court and yet we had a problem with him joining politics, so why don't we have a problem with Azharuddin joining politics? They were both involved in illegal activities and therefore both should not be allowed to contest elections...

Actually when we were discussing about 'No criminals in politics' and Sanjay Dutt I had mentioned the same in another's comment section.

Remember Azharuddin even played the minority card when he was accused though later he was made to apologize for the same. This is what Congress does always. Fooling the minority and latter feels that they are voting for lesser evil when in reality it is an intelligent devil.

We are in between the devil and the deep blue sea.

Yes, I remember him playing the minority card...I felt like laughing at that time...If the BCCI was gunning for him because he was a Muslim, then how on earth did he become the captain?
i second Solilo's views.... :(
@Solilo, Ajit
I think this minority has very little choice, on one hand there is open dislike and a fear or threat of violence, on the other there is an offer of friendship (- true or false), at least there is no threat, so I won't blame them for choosing the Congress, with or without a Muslim face..
I think this is a sad time, for all minorities, in India ...

PS Intense debate makes me sign in each time I comment ... trying to post this comment for the fourth time :(

I haven't tried backtrack and I'm sorry Intense Debate was playing up but I like the thread format of the programme...

It's true that the minority has very little choice but the Congress is not secular even though it claims to be...OK, it is not openly communal like the BJP (I can't vote for an openly communal party) but it too is communal...The party is into appeasement politics, always has been...It was involved in the anti-Sikh riots in the 80s...If the Congress were truly secular, why does it support the Haj subsidy? Why is it against a universal civil code? The Congress wants Muslim votes, that's why...Being truly secular means that the state should not differentiate between religions...Either give pilgrimmage subsidies to people of all religions or to none...A party can't be secular if it favours one religion...
IHM, Who is the majority in India? Aren't Hindus too divided into minorities further?

Each minority chooses a party because that party offers them something so by this logic you can't blame upper caste Hindus for supporting BJP, lower caste supporting Mayawati's Elephant etc.

Every party is basically fooling its supporters

I quote Shashi Tharoor from India: From Midnight to the Millennium,

"Indian identity is forged in diversity. Every one of us is in a minority."
I agree, Azharuddin is likly to be projected as the Muslim face of the Congress. That will only highlight the fact that he is a Muslim first and an Indian afterwards.

And that is exactly what the Congress will want to convey, if they want to use him to counter the All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen.
Bones, Manju, that is the key issue.

What is a "secular" party? A party that asks for minority votes unashamedly, a party that states that minorities have 'first right' on the nation's resources implying that the majority is "second-class" for it? Or is it a party that asks for dalit votes or Yadav votes or Sikh votes or Dravidian votes etc? Then why not a party that asks for "Hindu" votes?

Is the picking up of Azharuddin a 'secular' move? Or is it as bad, if not worse, as the picking of any other criminal who has cheated the whole nation? What message is going out to the Pathan brothers and others? They can go ahead and cheat the country and make their millions without a care? Because after they retire, they will be made MPs of a "secular" party? Why don't they call back Dawood Ibrahim and offer him a ticket too?
The fact that Muslims have to choose Congress because of its apparent secular image is sad . If I remember correctly , M J Akbar wrote something about it . How the real issues like umemployment , economic growth etc. get lost in the mess created by religion based politics . And is the MSM asking questions about Mr. Azhar contesting elections ?

One can trust the Congress(I) to recruit well known minorities to proclaim again and again that look, how secularist and pro Muslims we are. They are frauds from the top to the bottom.Wearing kid gloves when dealing with them is not secularism. In case of the Malegaon blasts, the goverment had invoked the tougher law introduced by BJP(also applicable in Delhi) but they refuse to invoke this tougher law in respect of the Delhi shoothwould nings. Why? Because Hindus (remember the Sadvi tare suspects in Mumbai &ess will not permit similar legislation to be Muslims in Delhi. The Congress has not permitted the President to give ascent to a similar bill passed by the Gujrat Assembly twice.Congress will always crawl to sup up the minorities. They should be treated like any other Indian.

Having said all that, I must confess that I had admired Ashar's delectable flicks through the mid wicket region. Those were treats.
Anyone who is capable of playing the 'minority card (or any other card for that matter)to appear as a victim is not to be trusted in my book.Azharuddin is just another one of those lost in the record book cricketers who now seek to gain some moolah..

I agree we should raise our voice for each and every single one of them..
Completely agree with Indyeah. Its sad if these guys use a 'minority card' to win votes. I wonder how anybody can do anything about it though.Secondly, I completely agree with Sabyasachi Ghose as well. These guys are complete frauds from the top to bottom - playing the secularism card. India has long ceased to be a secular nation. Politics is increasingly becoming a war of religions. Very strong words, but I`m beginning to see that as some kind of truth.

Politics is not only increasingly becoming a war of religions but also of castes and regions...

Sad the whole situation is, what else can I say! A person who cannot even play sports honestly is just the right person to play in Indian politics! The worst bit is we have hardly any choice, as Solilo says, indeed it is between the Devil and the deep blue sea.

The Muslims are to blame themselves for their plight. They are brain washed by their mullahs who shape their mental make up and attitude; staying as a separate people , sending their wards to Madrassas (no wonder their education level is lower) funded by the Wahabi Sect in Saudi Arabia (they advocate an extremely narrow and rigid form of Islam), and instead of joining the main stream, follow their own civil code like marriage, divorce, inheritance etc etc.(when a father-in-law raped his daughter-in-law, the mullahs decreed that the father in-law must marry the daughter-in-law and they recently refused to get their marriages registered as per the law and Congress agreed). It's unfortunate but that is secularism practiced by the Congress and the Leftists.

In Kolkata, the government permits (because Muslims are a huge vote bank) Muslims to block a segment of main roads near a masjid for their namaz but they would not allow this transgression for Hindus on daily basis. CPM even encourages Bangladeshis to infiltrate, issues Ration Cards, so that they become their vote bank. They too vouch for seclularism. When NDA protested, they were labeled communalists. Some six years back, when Buddha Bhattacharya ordered that Madrassas based on investigation found that many of them are nurseries for anti national activities, Karat & Co reprimanded him and Buddha executed a somersault the very next day.

If all this is true, the why are non-Muslims voting for the communists and the Congress, why is Mamata sleeping with the latter and why is no one making a noise about this most dangerous and even anti-national form of communalism? Educated Benaglis have to take full responsibility for this state of affairs. There is no escape - if all this is true, and I suspect it is.
This Bangladeshi business is well known...I live in Gurgaon and ALL the maids are from Bangladesh - they say they are from Malda which is a border district...A lot of them have voters cards...Every few months, the police round them up, take money (Rs.50 each) and then release them...I know a few of them and they admit they are from Bangladesh and that they were given v.cards by the CPM...

Muslims are just a part of their vote bank...I'm a Bengali and all the 'educated' ones who usually don't vote for the CPM...They don't win much in Kolkata - it's outside Kolkata where they are strong...
P.S. Mamata will sleep with anyone who will get her seats...She's sleeping with the Congress now because of her Nandigram & Singur 'war' against the CPM govt. ...
Okay now Mamta sleeping with anyone is a scary thought! I mean literally *grins away*

Our politicians are too dependent on religious and caste things to get votes. This is a trick they are using to keep the people divided and they are enjoying. There are some constituencies in our country where a person belongs to single caste has been contesting and winning continously. What we can call this is, a divide and rule....
I can never accept Congress or any other party as a secular one.. the day they are shurgging of these cheap politics and fielding the qualified canditates to serve the people, is the day I will respect and accept them.
Sanjay Dutt has applied in SC to get his case cleared so that he can contest in LS elections. What is the service he is going to do for this country? He openly admitted that Cinema will be his first passion. Even in that passionate job he didn't created any record. So we can expect a zero performance from him. Why SP is still going behind him? Are they concerned about people or not?
Govinda is another dump person who never did anything useful as MP. But the congress party for sure will give ticket to him.

Something new must be happened in Indian politics to remove these corrupted parties and politicians.
